Selection of roller bearing types

When selecting bearings, the main considerations are as follows:

Load of bearing

The size, direction and nature of the load on the bearing are the main factors for selecting the bearing.

When selecting bearings according to the size of the load, compared with the point contact of ball bearings, the main components in roller bearings are in line contact, which is easy to bear the load, and the deformation after bearing is small.

When selecting bearings according to the load direction, thrust bearings are generally selected for pure axial loads. Thrust roller bearing is selected for larger axial force. For smaller axial force, choose thrust ball bearing. For pure radial load, deep groove ball bearing, cylindrical roller bearing or needle roller bearing are generally selected. Deep groove ball bearing or tapered roller bearing can be selected when bearing not only radial load but also small axial load; When the axial load is large, angular contact ball bearing or tapered roller bearing with large contact angle can be selected. [1]

Speed of bearing

In general, the speed will not have any impact on the selection of bearing types, but when the speed is high, the speed should be included in the selection criteria of bearings.

(1) Compared with the roller bearing, the ball bearing has a higher limit speed, so in the case of high speed, the ball bearing is preferred.

(2) In the case of the same inner diameter, the smaller the outer diameter, the smaller the rolling element. Therefore, the centrifugal force exerted by the rolling element on the outer ring is smaller, which is more suitable for working at high speed. According to the properties given in Table 1, needle roller bearings are more suitable for working at high speeds. [1]

Self aligning performance of bearing

When the center line of the shaft does not coincide with the center line of the bearing seat and there is an angle error, or when the shaft is bent or tilted due to force, the axis of the inner and outer rings of the bearing will deflect. At this time, self-aligning bearing or spherical ball bearing with seat with certain self-aligning performance shall be adopted.

Roller bearings are most sensitive to bearing deflection, and the bearing capacity of such bearings may be lower than that of ball bearings under deflection. Therefore, when the shaft stiffness and the support stiffness of the bearing seat hole are low, or when there is a large deflection moment, this type of bearing should be avoided as far as possible. [1]

Bearing installation and removal

When parts and components must be installed and disassembled along the axial direction because the bearing seat has no split surface, the bearing with separable inner and outer rings (such as N0000, NA0000, 30000, etc.) shall be preferred.
